A rare, early Alessi piece designed by Franco Grignani, an exponent of the second wave of Futurism. His work included advertising campaigns for many brands including his most famous, the Woolmark logo. His name, and that of Alessi Italia, are on the back of the tray.

Does the end justify the means? In 1963, Franco Grignani accepted an invitation by the International Wool Secretariat to join the judging panel to select a new Woolmark logo. In a fascinating, complex story, he submitted what became the winning entry under an assumed name, Francesco Saroglia. The decision of the panel was unanimous and Woolmark went on to become one of the world’s most recognised brands.
